Description
The Maraba Cooperative, founded in 2001 by 20 growers through a USAID-funded program, now has over 1,500 members—about 35% women. Operating four washing stations in Rwanda’s Southern Province, the cooperative focuses on meticulous processing and drying. It provides financial support for education, health, and home or farm loans, reinvesting profits into infrastructure, resources, and training to improve coffee quality and yield. Maraba offers discounted organic pesticides, produces its own organic fertilizer, and trains members in sustainable farming. Its dry mill, built in 2006, supports quality control and job creation in the Huye District. Careful processing ensures high-quality coffee and economic stability for its members.
